(Composed in 2016)
Friends, this little film I made about Petra in Jordan, which I visited a couple of weeks ago, provides information for the two-part question on Petra, which I will give you in a moment.
Background: first you were assigned the Wiki article on Petra for this week, and if you want more general information you can get it there. The bottom line is the Petra consists of amazing facades of buildings carved into the cliffs. The path to the first of these monuments, the “Treasury” goes about a mile between vertical towers of rock — this passageway is called the “Siq.”
In my film I am walking down the Siq, with a multitude of horse-drawn carriages going by. Then I arrive at the Treasury, and the film shows a bit of the scene there. Now watch the film and for the Petra quiz item answer these questions:
In History 452, we have often explored the concept of “park-friendly” or “park-appropriate” artifacts and activities in the parks: whether roads, buildings, modes of transportation, etc.
1) Evaluate the modes of transportation at Petra besides hiking. Do you consider it park appropriate? Explain your answer
2) Evaluate the scene at the Treasury. Do you consider it park appropriate? Explain your answer.
Note: there are no correct or incorrect answers to these questions — but you do need to answer in a way that shows that you actually studied the film.
