Park Lists and Timelines

There are hundreds of National Parks in the United States and thousands around the world. Moreover, in the United States and elsewhere there are many different kinds of National Parks.  These sources will help you learn more about the multitude of parks — call if “parkology”

— Different kinds of parks in the United States: National Parks Foundation, “How Many National Parks are ThereLinks to an external site.?” This article (last updated on January 22, 2021) notes that there were then 423 “national park sites” in the United States. Of these 63 are simply called National Parks. The others have the word “National” in their names, but with other words, such as National Battlefield, National Historical Park, National Monument. and National Memorial. The article provides a useful overview with examples.
