One of the many sub-topics of our National Parks course is the question of defining what constitutes “park friendly” modes of travel in the parks — automobiles, historic trains, gondolas, snowmobiles? In a hike in the national forest bordering the Grand Tetons National Park, I encountered “Didi” who was riding a heavy bicycle on the trail complete with studded snow tires. She talked to me about her rig and then continued on up the trail — watch her execute that steep corner. — By the way, part of the fun for me in doing park history on the road is that I always seem to “luck out” and find interesting folks to “interview” like Didi here and her bike. So my question to you, Fellow Parksters is this: do we give Didi and her bike a “pass” to become with us a person who “HTL” (honors the landscape)?!
